Meet Dooder, the Safety Orange mascot.
Dooder is an African spurred tortoise, also called a sulcata tortoise, a species of tortoise, which inhabits the southern edge of the Sahara desert, in northern Africa.
He was rescued over a year ago from a home where he was being fed the wrong diet.
Dooder lives in a big glass enclosure at night and he spends his days in a portable dog pen in the front yard where he has lots of fresh, green grass to eat. We also feed him mulberry leaves, roses and other tasty tortoise snacks. At some point, Dooder will get too heavy to carry in and out of the house every day, and he will have to a permanent home outside.
No, we are not going to paint any part of him "safety orange", but we might just make him a little top hat with a safety orange hat band!
